« How will the 4th industrial revolution transform your leadership? » was the topic of our latest online workshop with top leaders, co-hosted by Laurence Leveque and myself.
The fourth industrial revolution (generative AI, science-and-data-driven business, hybridation between virtual & real worlds, climate sustainability) is a fusion of technologies that blurs the boundaries between the physical, digital, and biological spheres. Because of its scale, scope, and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before.
The implications for business are numerous. Many business players tend to focus primarily on the technical consequences for products & services, customer expectations, innovation processes or organizations. As with previous revolutions, it will also bring major changes in the personal, professional, societal and political spheres. Specific questions such as the role of work, human-machine integration or even the definition of self will be raised. Velocity (Exponential pace), Scope (Disruption of every industry) and impact on systems are just some of the characteristics of the fourth revolution.
In our workshop, we addressed the questions of how you can drive the necessary cultural change within your company and how you can help your teams ride the big wave ahead.
Here are some elements of the fruitful discussion we had:
🤔 We share many questions and concerns, particularly regarding the impact of AI on people and organizations.
🤔 There is no simple answer, but well-formulated questions may help pave the way, for instance:
👉 Many people express fears about the new prospects offered by AI. How can a leader involve their team in areas that risk "destroying" their jobs?
👉 How can they focus on opportunities and build a new alliance between business and team members?
👉 How do you lead a transformation when you don’t know what’s coming next, when everything is highly complex and when many stakeholders are involved?
When it comes to the relevant leadership skills, we found a strong agreement between participants. To put it in a nutshell, these are mainly humility, curiosity, a change mindset, strategic agility, and collaborative Innovation, with the human being as a compass.
