Distance is a game changer for all managers, whether they are willing to (re)motivate their teams at the time of the “Great Resignation”, looking for new ways to performance, or whether they are propelled to the outskirt of the corporate system while being over or under controlling.
Instead of focusing only on the technical aspects of remote management, I recommend that you take the current era of remote management as a springboard to update your understanding of the stakes for you and the system you are part of, to question the core purpose of your role, and to revisit every single routine or ritual of yours.
To this end, I would like to share with you 7 questions that you may find helpful to start 2022 as a great manager:
Have you formalized your mission statement as a manager?
What are your contributions to your teams’ development, to your company, to your clients (internal or external) and more globally to all your stake-holders?
Do you know precisely how these contributions translate into your daily life as a manager?
Have you checked that your actions as a manager are really aligned with your mission?
How could you take advantage of remote or hybrid management to renew the way you contribute to your company or business? How could you turn the technical challenges into opportunities to do differently?
What could make you “obsolete” in your professional environment, and what could you do to counter such a process, should there be any risk of it?
How could you influence the corporate culture to renew its ways in terms of management?
